University of Leeds
Red Kite Teacher Training has an exclusive partnership with the University of Leeds, providing trainees with a robust academic foundation underpinned by cutting-edge theory and educational research.
Red Kite Teacher Training and the University of Leeds have been working in partnership since 2016. Together, we have built a strong, evidence-informed programme that develops professional and inclusive teachers who are ready to meet the challenges of the future and lead learning in diverse educational settings.
Post-Graduate Route: PGCE with Master’s Level Credits
As a trainee on our PGCE route, you’ll spend eight days during your training year at the School of Education at the University of Leeds, where you’ll work towards your Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). These sessions, led by some of the country’s leading educational researchers, will equip you with the knowledge and insight to develop an evidence-based approach to teaching, helping you to reflect critically on what works in the classroom and why.
By the end of your year, you’ll complete either four Primary assignments or three Secondary assignments, leading to 60 Master’s-level credits.
Undergraduate Route: BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS
Now, you also have the option to start your teacher training via a full undergraduate degree: BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), 5-11 years, delivered by the University of Leeds in partnership with Red Kite. This three-year, full-time programme gives you the dual advantage of obtaining your BA honours degree and QTS together. You’ll engage in research-led teaching, gain invaluable classroom placements each year, and benefit from the mentoring and support of both academic staff and Red Kite practitioner-trainers.
