How we support you
All of our training is geared towards providing you with the support you need at each stage of your journey into teaching.
Whether that’s matching you with the right mentorship and guidance or simply recognising and responding to your unique personal characteristics, we’re here to help.
We start by making sure that your programme is tailored to you.
You won’t be put in front of a class until you’re ready, and we’ll always make sure there’s a qualified teacher in the classroom to support you.
During your placements you’ll receive ongoing support from teachers who’ve been hand-picked by Red Kite for their inspirational teaching styles. There’s no question that you’ll be learning from the very best.
Early Career Leaders
You’ll also have your own personal Red Kite Early Career Leader (ECL) who will be there to support you at each stage of the course.
You’ll meet them regularly at Red Kite Professional Development days, they’ll visit you in your placement schools and they will always be available by telephone when you need them – whether it’s for advice on a specific issue or just as a friendly sounding board.
Your personal ECL will be with you for every step of your year in training with us. They will:
Get to know you personally to understand where your strengths lie and where you might need extra support to help adapt the course to suit you.
Prepare you for interviews and give you expert insider knowledge about the teaching profession.
Help you get your first teaching job. Our Employment Conferences and continued support provide everything you need to confidently apply for jobs.
Reassure you when you need it most. Your emotional wellbeing is priority number one for ECLs.
On top of this, our dedicated Admin Team will help with a wide range of organisational issues so you can concentrate on your training.
Leaders provide exceptional pastoral support and care for trainees. This impacts strongly on trainees and ECTs who proudly describe themselves as distinctive graduates of Red Kite Teacher Training. Many are keen to return to act as mentors and collaborators of the training programme throughout their career.

Mentorship and support
In addition to your ECL, you’ll have an in-school Mentor who will meet with you weekly to discuss your progress.
This regular get-together is a chance for you and your mentor to have an informal chat about how you’re getting on with the course. It’s also the opportunity for your mentor to give you constructive feedback and for you to raise any concerns you may be having.
All of our mentors have been carefully selected by their schools for their proficiency in teaching and their proven ability to nurture. They’re there to help you succeed.
A weekly email from Red Kite will let you know what’s coming up, reminding you of important deadlines and keeping you on track.
You will also receive academic support from the University of Leeds in the form of a dedicated PGCE tutor.
